Parent Expectations
Parents are expected to pick players up at the time practice is scheduled to end. There will be little variance between the scheduled end time and release time.
We understand that until kids are in school daily, it may be difficult to get them here. We ask that you communicate with us issues that you are having.
If school normalizes, parents will need to help ensure that players have proper excuses for missing school, practice, and games. Requirements and punishments are listed under player expectations.
7th grade is learning volleyball, and they will all be given the opportunity to play. In 8th grade volleyball, our focus is on winning. Some will play more than others. We are not going to discuss playing time. Coaches log countless hours of watching your children in volleyball. Parents only get to see the fun part. If your child is working hard and getting better during the hard part, you will see them play in the fun part.
Player Expectations
Players are expected to attend all practices and games.
You will not play in a game if you miss the practice the day prior. If it is a tournament, you will not play in the first game. Family emergencies/funerals are exceptions. Sickness, even if excused by a doctor, is not.
7th graders are expected to stay for all matches during home games. 7th graders must stay for at least the first set of the 8th grade match during away games. Violations will be tallied and dealt with at the next practice.
You will wear shorts (volleyball or athletic), a t-shirt (no tank tops), kneepads, and athletic shoes to every practice.
You will be expected to meet certain academic standards during the season. Failing grades will result in running, as well as possible benching.
Other things that will merit running punishments include (but are not limited to): detention, teacher complaints, ISS, suspension, missing practice (even if excused), not having practice attire, being the last person out of the locker room, using your cell phone during practice, and not cleaning up after practice.
Being assigned ISS more than twice or being suspended more than once will result in removal from the team. Fighting with a teammate will also result in removal from the team.
In all situations involving teacher complaints, the teacher is going to be believed over the student.
Players are expected to self-report violations before practice. Not doing so will result in more severe running punishments.
Parent and Player Expectations Regarding COVID-19
We expect parents and players to both be honest regarding COVID-19. If you are exposed and/or test positive, then you need to quarantine yourself and let us know at the earliest convenience.
We do not want to be the reason an entire community shuts down its schools.
We ask that parents/family members only provide food for their relatives, even if the food is pre-packaged.
Attending Games
Games are usually $5 for fans. Occasionally, tournaments charge a higher price, but this is rare.
Anyone attending games at home or away will have to wear a facial covering.
At home games, as well as away games within the county, fans will have to pass a temperature check similar to what the volleyball players experience before each practice.
Directions to all away matches will be available on the Linktree page.
Tournament Changes
We are no longer in the Lincoln Tournament. They had to drop their numbers and now we are standby teams 2 and 3. If anything changes and teams drop out, we will add it back to the schedule.
7th and 8th grade are now both in the Guntersville Tournament. After losing the Lincoln Tournament, we felt we needed to add something for 8th grade.
Communication
We will likely have to stop using Remind. If so, we will let you know and go from there. We hope this is not the case because nothing offers the efficiency and ease of Remind. But after today, if you need to get in touch with us, please email us.
Donations
If anyone can donate Clorox or Lysol wipes, we would greatly appreciate it. We have to constantly clean volleyballs for safety, and we have started using our personal supply from home.
Fundraiser
Sponsorships are our only fundraiser. For $50, we will run business’ ad during games. For $75, we will also run it during basketball season. We really need money because we need to purchase additional volleyballs so we are not cleaning them constantly during matches.
PE for Hybrid/Virtual
If you are a member of the VPA, you will have to be enrolled in a PE class at OMS, and there will be a sign in to show that you are here. This is going to be 7th period, which is right before you were going to have to be here anyway. We will get more info on this to you as soon as we have it.
This is for VPA only. We will let you know if something changes.
Spirit Pack
The Team Store closes on Sunday. Hopefully, you have seen it before today. If not, please take a look and get your orders in.
We will be wearing team jerseys this year instead of purchasing our own. You will keep them and wash them until the season is over. We encourage you to use a color catcher when you wash them.
Transportation
We are saving this for last because we have never experienced anything like this before. At this moment, we cannot find a bus driver who does not have a route. We have discussed this with the county AD, and we are going to have to use parent drivers. In this current climate, we are not over the moon about this, and we hope we can secure a driver if new ones are confirmed at the board meeting next week. If this does not work out, we will meet with parents briefly after practice the week before our first games to decide who will ride with whom.
